Sourcing Strategy
We have experience in Setup, Contract Management and Delivery Management of
large international outsourcing deals. We therefore know pitfalls and success
factors. Our experience will be your benefit.
We do not claim to know all potential pitfalls, but those that we have
experienced since 1998 are still common in 2004 and appear to be immanent to the
outsourcing business in general. Ever since 1998 when we have directly been
involved with an outsourcing situation for the first time it has been the same
picture with different outsourcing suppliers.

Backgrounders:
We would like to share some of our thoughts about outsourcing,
outtasking and in-sourcing with you. There are some pitfalls that can
even be dangerous to the survival of your entire company.
Depending on the view you have, outsourcing has different faces:
- Management View
-
Outsourcing is sometimes seen as an "universal cure" for all sorts
of organizational problems. Outsourcing is a powerful tool but not
without risk.
-
Contract View
-
The contractual setup and contract management determine the possible
success of the outsourcing arrangement.
-
Delivery View
-
Delivery management is the art of turning a piece of paper
(contract) into a successful partnership between service provider
and customer.
-
In-Sourcing
-
In-Sourcing is the logical step that follows after a "not so
successful" outsourcing period or is part of the strategy from the
start.
As an Entry-Level Background Book we recommend
"Insourcing after the Outsourcing - MIS Survival Guide" by Robert
Chapman and Kathleen Andrade. The book is from 1997 and one might
consider it outdated but the rules, reasons and reality of outsourcing
have not changed significantly since the book was written.
